Testaccio Market

Address: via Lorenzo Ghiberti, 00153 Rome

The Testaccio neighborhood, located in the southern part of central Rome, has in recent years become the younger, fresher sister of the well-known Trastevere district. Its charm lies in the fact that it has not yet become overly commercialized, while still preserving its authentic Roman character—something both locals and visitors have come to love.

Since it does not feature major tourist attractions, the neighborhood has instead grown into a culinary stronghold of Rome. The covered Testaccio Market brings together a wide variety of stalls showcasing Roman gastronomy at its finest.

Around Monte Testaccio hill, which stands at the center of the neighborhood, a lively nightlife scene has also flourished in recent years, with clubs, excellent wine bars, and many quality restaurants. Interestingly, the hill itself is largely composed of fragments of ancient Roman terracotta amphorae once used to store wine and olive oil.
