Municipal Museum (Museo di Città)

tel: +39-0541 793851

Address: Via Luigi Tonini, 1, 47921 Rimini

Housed in a building that formerly served as a Jesuit monastery and later as a hospital, today the Municipal Museum of Rimini is located here. The museum showcases two main themes. The first is an archaeological collection from Rimini and its surroundings, including finds from the House of the Surgeon and burial caves located outside the city. The second theme features 14th-century paintings that the rulers of Rimini collected or commissioned artists to create in the family court. A significant boost to the development of art in Rimini came with the arrival of the harbinger of the Renaissance, Giotto, at the beginning of the 14th century. Alongside all the ancient artifacts, there is also an exhibition dedicated to the local-born artist René Gruau, who worked for many art magazines and international fashion houses.
