The second town, Manarola, is enchanting whether you arrive by train or via the “Via dell’Amore” (Path of Love). First, you pass through a tunnel connecting the train station to the town’s main entrance square. Along the station walls, photos depict the lives of locals over the years, showing agricultural work, cultivation methods, and local crafts. It is believed that the town’s name, Manarola, is a corruption of Magna Rota, referring to a large wheel that once stood at the local flour mill. It is worth descending to the beach, which has a narrow strip of sand, and along the way, you can see the fishermen’s boats at rest. From the sea-view terrace, a narrow path leads to a stunning viewpoint, which is also part of the continuation of the “Path of Love.”
