Arena di Verona

tel: +39-0458005151

Address: Piazza Bra, 1, 37121

One of the city’s symbols and its largest structure. This Roman amphitheater, the third-largest in Italy, was built in the 1st century CE and remains almost entirely intact. Its function has changed throughout history: from gladiator battles to cultural performances, shelter for the homeless, small studio spaces, and more. Only in 1913 did the amphitheater become a permanent venue for annual opera performances.
It’s recommended to take a guided tour to explore the underground passageways beneath the stone seats and to experience the amazing acoustics. Of course, attending at least one opera performance is highly recommended to fully enjoy the experience. The opera festival is held during the summer months and attracts many visitors. In the past, the arena could hold about 30,000 spectators. Today, after the construction of the stage for concerts and opera, the capacity is limited to around 15,000.
