Benevento was originally called Maleventum (from male, meaning “bad”) due to the strong winds that blow through the area. Later, the name was changed to Beneventum (bene meaning “good”). This is a unique city – a place of mystery, myths, legends, and rich history. In the past, it was the center of the Samnite people, a Roman city, and the capital of a Lombard duchy.
